Flickr goes HD

Starting today, Flickr supports 720p HD video!  It’s limited to Flickr Pro members — but free users also got an upgrade and can now upload 2 standard def videos per month.  Previously, free users could upload 0 videos per month.

[Edit: digging a little deeper, anyone can actually upload HD but only video from Pro members shows up in HD on the site.  Flickr keeps the HD versions and if a free user upgrades to a Pro account, their HD versions automagically become available.]

The embedded player is pretty slick.  This must be a sign that it’s time for me upgrade to the Canon 5D Mark II.

Also announced today, a new way to explore videos… Flickr Clock.  This new view sorts videos by the time of day that they were shot.  The new interface was created by Stamen, the same guys who famously designed the Digg visualizations and updated the design of Trulia’s real estate map.
